I sold one a while back because i got a bit annoyed of it's core filter sound and looking for sweetspot, and was in dire need for some money.

Also for expressiveness, 16 mod slots per layer can make sounds that are super responsive for an actual keys player. The best strings and epic pads, not super warm -though something like a mf108 analogue chorus does miracles- but evolving and lively. Drones and dark distressed sounds that are brilliant for soundscaping. BOC and weird experimental sounds galore.

On the other hand it does a whole lot of character full and unique timbres. It has some significant aliasing and a rather dirty VCA that doesn't lend itself well to that. It doesn't do those glassy sounds or incredibly high frequency content bells.

The P12 is in no way a replacement for a DX. Thanks in advance for any thoughts you might have to offer. I'm just trying to get my bearings and determine whether or not a Prophet swap would be the right choice for me. Unfortunately I can't find any local store that has one.Īpologies for the rant. On a side note, if there's anyone in Michigan who owns a Prophet 12 and wants to play with a Rev 2, I'd love to get together and compare our instruments sometime! I probably just need to get my hands on one to say whether or not it would be a better choice for my needs. It seems the Prophet 12 offers a ton of options before you even touch the filter, and that is very appealing to me.ĭo you Prophet 12 owners out there find your DX7 lust to be non-existant because of your Prophet's FM? And to anyone who own's both, which one are you doing more sound design on, and which one shows up in your tracks more? Unfortunately it's not an option for me to own both, I just don't make enough money for that! I sometimes miss the complexity and depth of programming involved with creating patches on the DX7. It always suited me really well, to just sit down and focus on songwriting. I tweaked it to be warmer and thicker, and less harsh. I always loved that stupid cheesy electric piano on the DX7.

I honestly really miss having simple sine waves at my disposal! Sometimes they are the perfect addition to a patch, and the Rev 2, with its occasional quiet oscillator bleed and lack of a sine wave oscillator, leaves a little to be desired for me personally. There's not a lot that I miss about the DX7, but there are a few things that I find myself still longing for. That being said, I actually sold a DX7IIFD to help come up with the funds for the Rev 2. I geek out about programming and the Rev 2 fulfills a lot of those geeky needs. It is a joy to play and I make something wonderful and new just about every time I sit down with it. I've owned a Rev 2 for around a year now and I really do love it for a whole lot of good reasons. I know this thread has been quiet for a while, but I thought I'd chime in with some thoughts and questions of my own.
